For this leg of the challenge this article will bring together all of our DIY skincare hacks, with a few new ones sprinkled in, that we have mentioned so far! Let us know in the comments below if you want to/ have tried any of these skincare hacks. We would also love to hear some more of your recommendations!
Citrus Peel Body Scrub
1 cup dried citrus peels (oranges, lemons or grapefruits)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil
1tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Grind the peels to form a fine powder
Add the sugar, coconut oil and vanilla extract (optional) to the peels and mix well
Massage onto damp skin, focusing on the hard areas
Rinse with warm water
This body scrub makes for a great exfoliant and will leave you with silky smooth skin. We recommend doing this body scrub 3 times a week for maximum smoothness. Make sure to massage the body scrub gently as doing it too hard might damage your skin.
Turmeric Face Mask
2tbsps of yogurt
1/2 tsp of turmeric
1/2 lemon - squeezed
1 tsp of honey (optional)
Combine the ingredients together and mix well
You can leave the mask in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool it down to also reduce puffiness
Apply evenly onto the face, keep it on the face for 15 minutes then wash with warm water
This is a tried and tested face mask recipe that helps with evening out skin tone. It is also a good anti-inflammatory which is great for when you get those really red spots on your face!
Combatting Puffy Eyes
One of the easiest and natural ways to reduce puffy eyes in the morning is with some teabags!
Wet two green teabags
Place in the fridge for as long as possible - you could even do this before you go to bed
Place them onto the eyes until they loose their coolness
Green tea is known to have anti-inflammatory properties which is great news for our puffy morning eyes.
This can also be great in reliving those puffy and itchy eyes because of hay fever!
After-Sun Cream
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
2 tbsps coconut oil
1 tsp shea butter
10 drops lavender essential oil
Mix together the aloe vera, coconut oil and shea butter together well
Add in the drops of lavender oil - you can add more or less if you fancy, the lavender is there to provide the cream with a lovely aroma
Place in a reusable container - you can also place it in the fridge so has a nice cool feeling when you place it onto your skin
With the heatwaves predicted we must do what we can to protect our skin. This after sun cream is the perfect option for our skin. With the cool affects of the aloe vera with the nourishing properties of the coconut oil and shea butter proves to be a great way to soothe the skin after a day in the sun!
